Introduction
Summer is here! And there’s no better time to travel than now. But food-lovers, there’s even more reason for you to get out and explore this summer: you can try some amazing new dishes from all over the world! So here are five of my favorite places to eat on vacation this season:
NYC’s Cronuts
- What is a cronut?
A Cronut is a croissant-donut hybrid, created by pastry chef Dominique Ansel in New York City. The original flavor was vanilla cream, but there are now more than 20 different flavors available. You can find them at his bakery on Spring Street or at various locations throughout the city.
- Where to get them:
You can get your hands on one of these delicious pastries at many locations throughout NYC–just look for the line! If you’re visiting from out of town or don’t have time to wait in line, we recommend buying one online before you travel so that when you arrive at JFK airport (or wherever), it will be waiting for you inside your hotel room/Airbnb rental/car rental company office with its deliciousness intact.*How much they cost: $5 each if purchased individually; $12-$15 if purchased in packs of five.*What do they taste like? Each variety tastes different depending on which filling has been used; however all are equally delicious! Some favorites include salted caramel and lemon meringue pie.*Why are they so popular? These bad boys have become quite popular among locals as well as tourists visiting our great city because they’re unique–and delicious!

The name “Cronut” was invented by Dominique Ansel himself when he accidentally dropped a glazed donut into some oil while making doughnuts. The result was something that looked like a cross between the two pastries, but tasted even better than both!
Go to Dominique Ansel Bakery (189 Spring Street) in SoHo and get yourself a cronut!
If you’re looking for a sweet treat, this is the place to go. You can find just about anything here–from cookies to cakes and donuts. They also have ice cream sandwiches that are absolutely amazing! If you’ve never tried one before, now’s your chance!
The address is 189 Spring Street in SoHo (New York City). The hours of operation are Monday – Thursday from 7am – 11pm; Friday from 7am – midnight; Saturday from 8am – midnight; Sunday from 9am – 10pm. To get there by public transportation: Take either the A/C/E train or 1/2/3 train until Canal Street then walk two blocks east on Canal Street until reaching Lafayette Street where you will turn right onto Lafayette Street heading south towards Prince Street which takes you directly inside Dominique Ansel Bakery’s front door entrance located between Spring & Prince Streets right next door where we’ll meet up later once I arrive today at around 6pm sharp so don’t forget our meeting time folks because otherwise we may miss each other entirely!
Montreal’s Poutine
If you’re looking for a taste of Canada, Montreal is the place to go. The city has a great food scene and one of its most iconic dishes is poutine. Poutine is a French Canadian specialty that consists of french fries, cheese curds and gravy. This dish has become so popular that even stateside restaurants are starting to serve it!
You can find authentic poutine at La Banquise (994 Rue Rachel E) which has been serving their version since 1968!

While you may not be able to find poutine at every corner restaurant in your hometown, there are plenty of places across America where you can get your fix!
Here are some examples:
- In New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood you can find “La Poutinerie”, which serves up traditional poutine as well as new takes on the classic dish like pulled pork poutine or buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese sauce.
- At Chicago’s Au Cheval restaurant they serve duck frites (fried duck fat potatoes), Brie cheese sauce, caramelized onions & pickled jalapenos; this combination has been called “food porn” by many food critics because it looks good enough to eat!
Visit La Banquise (994 Rue Rachel E) in Montreal for some authentic poutine!
La Banquise is a popular poutine spot in Montreal, and it’s easy to see why. There are over 40 different kinds of poutine on their menu, including chorizo sausage poutine and duck fat fries with foie gras gravy.
The restaurant is open 24 hours a day, so you can get your fix whenever the craving strikes! The prices range from $7-$9 per plate depending on what type you order (the most expensive being “La Grande Ourse” which has two types of cheese curds). If you’re looking for something cheaper but still delicious then try out La Vache qui rit ($3/plate) or Le Patriote ($4/plate).
The Ramen Burger
The Ramen Burger
The ramen burger is a popular food in New York City. It’s made with ramen noodles as the buns, and it’s usually topped with crumbled nori (seaweed). The burger was invented by Keizo Shimamoto at Smorgasburg LA in 2012, but it became famous when he added it to his menu at Brooklyn’s Black Seed Bagels that same year. You can find the original version of this dish at Brodo (247 East 10th Street), which serves up delicious burgers made from bone broth and other slow-cooked ingredients cooked for hours until they’re tender enough to fall apart in your mouth!
If you’re looking for a creative twist on your typical burger, try ramen burgers from East Village sushi joint Brodo. The restaurant takes its ramen broth and mixes it with beef fat so it becomes more like loose meat than traditional broth…then forms them into patties for their burgers!

Ramen burgers aren’t just unconventional; they’re downright delicious. The patty is served on a soft bun with pickled cucumbers and shredded cabbage–a perfect complement to the rich taste of this unique dish.

Ramen burgers are a favorite food of many New Yorkers, and there’s no better place to try one than at Brodo. This restaurant serves up delicious ramen burgers, including the pork belly ramen burger (the name says it all). If you’re not feeling particularly hungry and want something lighter, they also have other options like chicken wings, salads and more!
Brodo is located at 247 East 10th Street in New York City.
